When Jan was 24 years old, she made up her mind that she would be rich one day.  Her inspiration came from a simple guide that promised wealth for anyone who followed three basic principles:

• Pay yourself with the first 10% of your earnings
• Choose reasonable investments

In the beginning, she adopted the practices while thinking there must be more to becoming wealthy.  Could the road to riches be that straightforward? Jan learned firsthand that it was.

With a keen interest in finance and accounting, Jan earned her MBA in both disciplines. In 1988, she obtained her CFP® accreditation. After two decades of practicing as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and conducting money management seminars, she confirmed two important points:

• Yes, the process for getting rich is simple.
• No matter how much money people make, they will never reach financial independence without making the most of the dollars they earn.
